Through painting, sculpture, video and sound this exhibition aims to examine the human condition and the capacity to understand our relationships with ‘self’ and ‘others’.
‘Shortcut through the trees’ is concerned with the exploration of ‘place’ and ‘belonging’. It is about harmony and discord; the notion that everything does not adhere to its symbolism. Multiple meanings will exist, often resulting in a paradox. It deals in opposites and contradictions: black and white, shadow and light, movement and stillness, clarity and obscurity, and the interplay between different dimensions. The work encourages us to look at the familiar and see the unknown.
Based in Belfast, Mark has exhibited in Ireland, the UK and in Europe, including the Ulster Museum and the Siena Arts Institute in Italy.
Music by Neon Fiji
This project has been supported by The National Lottery through the Arts Council of Northern Ireland SIAP Programme.

A new solo exhibition – The water’s edge
July 23, 2013
Mark has been selected to exhibit a solo show of work that has been supported by the Arts Council of Northern Ireland. The exhibition is entitled ‘The water’s edge’ and will run during the month of September 2013 at the Waterfront Hall Belfast. The opening night for the show is on 4th September starting at 7pm, where there be an opportunity to hear Mark talk about the work.
This exhibition aims to represent ‘the voice of the silent majority’ in Northern Ireland as the ‘boundary plates’ are moving and being redefined. Using the familiar subject matter of landscape and water to metaphorically represent complexities, challenges and opportunities, it encourages the process of looking at the familiar and seeing the unknown.
